The Cricket World Cup is underway and this cricket lover is very excited. As I write England are taking part in the opener against South Africa and are in a strong position. New Zealand don’t play until Saturday when we take on the Sri Lankans. The next couple of months promise plenty of cricket action, what is better than watching a bit with a beer in hand?
If, for some reason you are looking for an alternative to beer or just fancy a change we now have our first canned cider in stock. For a while we have stocked Silly Moo from Cowfold in bottles and now the canned version is in the fridge. It is reasonably dry and with a lingering tannic finish it is far from your standard sugary, fizzy canned cider. Even this beer lover found himself sampling more than one can, just to make sure it was suitable for the shop of course…
Yes, it is late May and no, we haven’t opened yet as we had planned. We are getting close though with just a couple of major items still to be ticked off. Rather than set ourselves up by making a prediction now lets just say we are weeks, not months away. Watch this space.
Oxted Beer Festival
Tickets are selling fast so don’t miss out, if you know you want to go then we highly recommend getting your tickets immediately, The link is here The beer list is coming together nicely a selection of festival favourites plus some first timers to keep the list fresh. While we are still finalising the beer for the Hop Stop Bar I wonder what it would be like to enjoy a cold Cloudwater or maybe a fresh Gipsy Hill at the Festival?
This week has been a bit quiet on the new arrivals front so I have taken the liberty of including a beer that isn’t technically new to us, but it has been a long time since we last stocked it. Which of the three could it be?
Wiper and True Pink Peppercorn Porter 5.7% A warming porter which is lifted by the subtle addition of pink peppercorn. Imagine a gentle spice, not a catch in the back of your throat type of pepper.
Gipsy Hill Baller 7% Eight different malts! That’s right eight different malts help create a smooth and filling mouthfeel with the trio of Mosaic, Citra and Ekuanot hops resulting in a huge juiciness.
Thornbridge / Siren Vida Brut IPA 6% Dry and light, super refreshing and with just a hint of tartness if you haven’t tried a Brut IPA before than this would be a good starting point.
